Argan oil

Cultivation · Harvesting · Processing

We obtain our argan oil directly from the producing cooperatives.

Argan oil, often referred to as "liquid gold of Morocco", is one of the most valuable and sought-after natural products in the world.
It is extracted from the fruit of the argan tree (Argania spinosa), which grows exclusively in the southwestern region of Morocco and whose oil is used both in cosmetics and in cooking.
The production of argan oil of the highest organic quality requires traditional craftsmanship, sustainable methods and strict controls.

Historical roots:
The argan tree is one of the oldest tree species in the world and dates back to the Tertiary period. It is endemic to Morocco and grows mainly in the Souss-Massa region, between the High Atlas and the Atlantic Ocean.
The Berber communities of this region have used argan oil for centuries for medicinal, cosmetic and culinary purposes.

The argan region has been recognized by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve to ensure the protection and sustainable use of the tree. Climate conditions and sustainable cultivation:
The argan tree thrives in semi-arid regions with little rain (100-300 mm per year). Its deep roots protect it from drought and prevent soil erosion.
It grows in barren soils that are unsuitable for other agricultural crops.

Certified organic cultivation:
The organic cultivation of argan oil involves avoiding chemical fertilizers and pesticides, thus protecting the environment and natural biodiversity.

Processing
Women's cooperatives play a central role in the production of argan oil. They promote social justice, improve living standards and strengthen the role of women in Moroccan society.

Drying the fruit:
The collected fruit is dried in the sun to reduce the moisture and make it easier to extract the kernels.
The drying process takes place on clean, airy surfaces to avoid contamination.

Removal of the fruit pulp:
The dried fruit pulp is removed by hand, leaving only the hard argan nuts (ceramics). This work is traditionally done by local women.

Opening the nuts:
The hard nuts are cracked open by hand with a stone to release the small, almond-shaped seeds inside.
This process is extremely time-consuming and requires skill to avoid damaging the seeds. Around 50 kilograms of fruit have to be processed to get one kilogram of seeds.

Pressing the seeds – cold pressing for organic quality:
To obtain organic argan oil of the highest quality, the seeds are mechanically cold pressed. This preserves the nutrients, flavor and effectiveness of the oil.
No chemical solvents or heat are used to ensure the purity of the oil.

Yield:
The yield is low: only 1 liter of oil is obtained from about 3 kilograms of seeds – and that determines the price.

Organic certification
Purity:
Certified organic argan oil is produced without the use of chemicals. The entire production process – from harvesting to packaging – is subject to strict controls.

Certifications:
Argan oil with a certificate of organic origin is tested by organizations such as ECOCERT, which ensure that all standards for organic farming and sustainable production are met.

Tests:
The oil is regularly tested for purity, acidity and nutrient content. High-quality argan oil has a characteristic nutty scent and a golden color.
Conclusion
